My Magazine Pitch & Feedback

The feedback I received for this presentation was

  • I have researched well into my target audience.
  • I needed to include more information about my final shots, like the camera's positioning etc.
  • I needed to talk about the magazine front cover as a whole.
  • Creative & catchy magazine name
  • Colour scheme fits well with the genre and magazine type.
  • Style planning is very nice, however I could've produced more of it to give a clearer view of my intentions.
  • Font choice fits well

25 Word Pitch:

Pitch:
My genre of choice is Indie Rock. I am calling my magazine inD. It is aimed at males and females aged 16-30 years old.

Terry Richardson - Photographer

Terry Richardson was born on August 14th 1965. He has been taking photographs since 1993 and has photographed many A-List celebrities since he began his career. He has done work for magazines including Rolling Stone, GQ, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Harpers Bazaar, i-D, and Vice. He is synonymous with his photo's of celebrities with a white background, which is a simple yet effective style choice. I would like to take photo's in the style of Richardson for my final magazine front cover.

David Carson - Graphic Designer

David Carson is known for creating the so-called 'grungy typography' era, when creating the layout for his famous magazine 'Ray Gun' he experimented with different typography's and layouts in order to get the final product. I like his typography and layout, and it's a style I would like to employ, to a certain degree, in my final product.

My Magazine Title

I have chosen to name my magazine inD. I have chosen this name because it's a play on the letters used in the word 'Indie'. I have chosen to base my magazine purely on Indie Rock and I find this play on the word dynamic and hope it would draw attention to potential readers if they were to walk past it in a shop.

Bauer Media - Institution that will publish my magazine

I have chosen Bauer Media to publish my magazine as they're a large publishing company in charge of many music magazine brands like Kerrang! and Q, as well as other famous magazines like heat and Zoo. I think this company is a good publishing company as they publish many successful magazines and so far publish over 600 different magazines. They're also known for their control over 50 TV and radio stations, so I know that if I were to use this company to publish my music magazine, my product would be in safe hands.

Preliminary Task - Brief

Using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally candidates must produce a DTP mock-up layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of the program.
